Meet The Hair Doc
I'm a native of Tappahannock, Virginia. After graduating from Essex County Public Schools, I pursued my passion for cosmetology, earning my Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate Degrees from the Institute of Cosmetology /NBCL.
Since 1986, I’ve been a Cosmetological Entrepreneur dedicated to my craft, seeking extensive training both nationally and internationally. My focus has always been healthy hair and making absolutely sure my clients look and feel their very best. I believe consultation is key; I need to know your hair’s full history and your future goals before we even start.
I've been proudly self-employed since 1990 and own Salon Newrell. I'm fortunate to serve a highly consistent clientele who travel from near and far. In 2023, I was honored to be featured in Richmond Magazine for my thoughts on Embracing the Gray. It's a true passion of mine to help people navigate that transition gracefully, though I always say that it’s a personal choice and certainly not for everyone.
My reputation is built on promptness and professionalism—I respect your time, and I treat every client with the respect they deserve. 40 Years of Exclusive Healthy Hair Care
I coined the word "EPIC"—which stands for: Every Person Is Considered—to describe both my clientele and the spirit of my fashion shows. I came up with that saying because I genuinely feel everyone is important. To feel good is to look good, and that is my specialty.
As a hairstylist for over 40 years, there is nothing like seeing my clients smile at the end of my service, and watching them leave with an extra pep in their step. While society often uses the phrase "good hair," I believe all hair is good hair. There are simply different textures, whether it is fine, medium, or coarse. It just depends on finding the particular hairstyle or cut that truly compliments you. I just enjoy the feeling of making people feel good.
To ensure that feeling, I provide an atmosphere of exclusivity, servicing only one client at a time (unless I am servicing family members who are comfortable with one another present). To have that exclusivity makes my client feel special, because this may be their only time of peacefulness.
